Blue Crayfish
Mark - Chicago (Thursday, January 13, 2005)
Great addition to a fresh-water aquarium. They are escape artists and should be kept in a covered tank. They will shed their skeleton every few weeks. They are somewhat nocturnal and enjoy a hiding place (i.e. cave, sunken ship interior, etc.) during the day. Fairly hearty and fun to watch. Mine loves 'Crab & Lobster Bites,' a sinking pellet food made of fish, squid and blood meal with nutrients and vitamins added. True blue crayfish don't lose their color and appear to get brighter after they shed their skeleton. I understand they have their color due to a missing gene. Beware of imitations died blue that loose their color when they shed sold by unscrupulous dealers.
